Professional Activities & Service

Beyond my research and teaching duties, I am deeply involved in academic leadership, international scientific societies, and high-level expertise for national and European institutions.

1. International Scientific Leadership (IFIP)

I have a long-standing involvement with the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), particularly within Technical Committee 11 (Security and Privacy Protection).

  • IFIP Silver Core Award (2013): Received this prestigious international distinction in recognition of services rendered to the scientific community.
  • IFIP Working Group 11.2 (Pervasive Systems Security):
    • Chair (2014 – 2022): Led the group for two mandates, growing it to over 50 active members.
    • Vice-Chair (2007 – 2013).
    • Secretary (Since 2022).
  • IFIP Domain Committee on IoT: Member of this transverse structure representing TC11 for all security-related aspects of the Internet of Things since 2017.
  • Conference Founder: Co-founder of the WISTP (Information Security Theory and Practice) international conference.

2. International & National Expertise

  • European Commission Expert: Independent expert evaluator for cybersecurity and ICT research programs, including H2020, Horizon Europe, and the Digital Europe Program.
  • Gendarmerie Nationale Expert:
    • Lead researcher within the HuNum Chair, providing advanced forensic protocols for data extraction from damaged media.
    • Permanent Member of the Jury for the “Research and Strategic Thinking” Awards of the Gendarmerie Nationale since 2021.
  • International Research Evaluator: Expert for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), NRF South Africa, and KU Leuven (Belgium).

3. Territorial & Industrial Impact

  • Limoges Cybersecurity Resource Center: Founder and coordinator of the working group that prefigured the center (officially inaugurated in 2023). I federated local institutional and industrial stakeholders to establish this strategic resource.
  • Industrial Innovation & Vulnerability Research: Supervision of research work within my team leading to:
    • 2 Industrial Patents with Thales DIS on secure architectures.
    • 2 Critical Architectural Vulnerabilities:
  • Software & Community Tools:
    • JCatools: Developer of this suite of tools for Java Card technology, used by the community for security experimentation and modeling.
    • pcsc-lite: Historical contributor to this key open-source middleware for smart card support on Unix-like systems.

4. Institutional Leadership & Management

  • Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies (2020 – 2025): Elected head of the largest component of the University of Limoges, managing 3,500 students, 300 faculty and administrative staff, and 10 research laboratories.
  • Board Member of CDUS: Elected member of the board of the National Conference of Deans and Directors of Science Faculties in France.
  • Head of the CREATE Research Team (Since 2022): Directing the “CybeRsEcurity and Artificial inTElligence” team at the XLIM Laboratory (UMR CNRS 7252).
  • National Council of Universities (CNU 27): Elected member of the French national body for Computer Science for 8 years from 2011 to 2019.

  • MSPN (Mobile, Secure and Programmable Networking): Steering Committee Member and General Chair of MSPN 2017.
  • WISTP (Workshop on Information Security Theory and Practice):
    • General Chair: WISTP 2024 (Paris), WISTP 2007 (Crete).
